No. 2 Volleyball sweeps No. 21 Baylor for seventh ranked win of the season

The Longhorns remain undefeated entering SEC play.
AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 2 Texas Volleyball team finished its preseason non-conference schedule with a perfect 8-0 record after sweeping No. 21 Baylor (25-18, 25-12, 25-13) in front of another sellout crowd at Gregory Gym on Friday night.
The win marked UT's seventh victory over a top-25 ranked opponent and its fifth sweep of a ranked foe this season. This also marked the third consecutive home sweep against a ranked opponent, a stretch that includes No. 9 Arizona State, No. 9 TCU and No. 21 Baylor. The Longhorns improved to 51-0 at home all-time against the Bears.
Texas was led by freshman standout Cari Spears who tied her career high with a match-high 18 kills on a staggering .654 attack percentage. She added three blocks, four digs and an ace in her eighth collegiate appearance. The Longhorns also recorded a season-high eight service aces, with Emma Halter and Torrey Staford both recording two and Ella Swindle leading the match with three. The last time Texas had three athletes record two or more aces was last season against Oklahoma when Madisen Skinner, Keonilei Akana and Avery Carlson each recorded two.
Set One: In the closest set of the match, the Longhorns were led by Spears and her six kills. Texas hit .333 and carried a 78-percent sideout percentage. The Longhorns built their largest lead at 17-10 and closed the set by scoring the final three points.
Set Two: It was all Texas in the second. With a seven-point scoring run, Texas got out to a 17-4 lead. Baylor recorded only eight kills compared to Texas' 16. Spears led with six, while Torrey Stafford recorded four of her 10 total kills. Texas also recorded four of its eight aces in the set.
Set Three: Texas completed the sweep by holding Baylor to its lowest attack percentage of .121 on 10 kills. The Texas defense notched five of its 11 blocks led by freshman Taylor Harvey. Harvey earned her third start and led the team with four total blocks.
The Longhorns start SEC play on Wednesday, Sept. 24 when they host Vanderbilt at 8 p.m. Central.
